For almost thirty years the communities of Nillumbik have campaigned for an industry-standard arts venue at the Old Shire Offices site of 895 Main Road Eltham — a permanent home for the Council’s art collection, plus exhibition and studio spaces for local artists, and a venue for touring exhibitions from other galleries.

Would you like Nillumbik’s art and culture to be cherished for future generations?

Would you like to see touring exhibitions from other art galleries being shown in Nillumbik?

If the answer is yes, then sign our petition, asking the Nillumbik Shire Council to allocate the land at 895 Main Road Eltham for the Nillumbik Art Museum, and to research the various funding options from State and Federal governments and philanthropic institutions to support the construction of the museum.

This petition will be lodged with Nillumbik Shire Council under its Governance Rules. Any resident of Victoria may sign. Signatures from outside Victoria are warmly welcomed as support, but Council counts only Victorian residents, so they are listed separately.

THE NILLUMBIK ART COLLECTION

The Nillumbik Council’s art collection consists of over 500 works by artists of national and international standing. These works are rarely displayed, and are stored off site in commercial storage outside of Nillumbik, costing Nillumbik Council thousands of dollars a year to store the entire collection, and $60 for a person just to view an artwork. Many artworks are never publicly displayed due to a lack of a suitable venue in which to suitably show these artworks.

The Nillumbik Art Museum will provide a permanent home for the collection, allowing the community to access ‘their’ collection.
